Cannot Initialize Your Own Art Collection
While running PrintMaster® 4.0, the message "Can't initialize the your own art collection" occurs. Corruption of the files that control the Your Own Art Gallery can cause this issue. Deleting the corrupt files should resolve the issue. This technical note describes the process.

Complete the steps below to delete the corrupt files.
  1. Close all programs and return to the desktop.
  2. Click Start, choose Find and choose Files or Folders.
  3. Type userart.* in the Named: field.
  4. Verify that My Computer shows in the Look in: field. (Use the drop-down arrow to the right of the Look in: field to change the selection if needed.)
  5. Click Find (Windows® 95/98) or Search (Windows® Me). The search should find at least 16 files.
  6. Click Edit and choose Select All. All files should be highlighted.
  7. Press and hold the CTRL key on the keyboard and click once on all userart.def files.
  8. Release the CTRL key. All files except the Userart.def file (or files) should be highlighted.
  9. Verify that the files with the .def extension are not selected. If a .def file is selected, repeat Steps 7 and 8 to deselect that file.

NOTE: Do not delete any file showing the .def extension.

  10. With all files except the userart.def file (or files) selected, press the DELETE key on the keyboard.
  11. Close the Search (or Find) window.
  12. Restart the computer.
  13. Launch PrintMaster® 4.0 and click Yes when prompted to add the images to the Your Own Art Gallery.
  14. Continue to use the program.
NOTE: To prevent a reoccurrence of this issue, it is advisable to update the video driver. The driver (make and model information) is found in the Device Manager in the System Properties window.
  1. Click Start on the Windows® Taskbar.
  2. Select Settings and click Control Panel. A window titled Control Panel will appear.
  3. Double-click the System icon. A window titled System Properties will appear.
  4. Click the Device Manager tab.
  5. Select "View devices by type" if it is not already selected.
  6. In the list of devices, locate and double-click on Display Adapters. This will expand the Display Adapters list.
  7. Double-click on the driver name that appears below Display Adapters. The Properties window will open.
  8. Click the Driver tab and record the driver date.

NOTE: Do not click the Update Driver button. The Update Driver wizard searches the system (not the Internet) for drivers to the selected device.

  9. Click OK to close the window.
NOTE: Video driver updates can be obtained from the appropriate manufacturer’s Web site, or by contacting the computer manufacturer for update and download information.
