When attempting to load PrintMaster® or to access "Your Own" projects collection, the message "Cannot Initialize Your Own Projects" may appear. One or more corrupt USERPROJ or USERART files may cause this error. The issue may be resolved by deleting the USERPROJ and USERART files.
The issue should be resolved when the following procedure is completed.
Windows® 95/98- Close PrintMaster® and return to the desktop.
- Click Start, select File and click Files or Folders. A window entitled Find: All Files will appear.
- Type USERPROJ in the Named field.
- Identify the drive where PrintMaster® was installed. Verify that the drive letter shows in the Look In field. (This is typically the C: drive.)
- Click the Find Now button. When the search is completed, verify that USERPROJ files were found (lower-left corner of the Find Files window). Typically ten USERPROJ files are found. Additional USERPROJ or USERART files may be present however, depending on whether other PrintMaster® or American Greetings® programs have been installed.
- Enlarge the Find: Files window to allow viewing of all of the files listed.
- In the title bar immediately above the list of files, click once on the TYPE title. This action will arrange all USERPROJ (or USERART) files by TYPE.
- Locate all USERPROJ (or USERART) files showing the extension "def" (if they exist).
NOTE: If they do not exist, choose Edit and Select All. Next choose File and Delete. Click the Yes button when asked, "Are you sure you want to send these files to the recycle bin?" All USERPROJ (or USERART) files will be deleted. Proceed with Step 12.
- Press and hold down the CTRL key. Click once on each of the userproj.def (or userart.def) files. Release the CTRL key when the files become highlighted.
- Choose Edit and Invert Selection. All files, except those showing the "def" extension, will become highlighted. These are the files to be deleted.
- Choose File and Delete from the menu bar. Click the Yes button when asked, "Are you sure you want to send these files to the recycle bin?"
- Repeat the above procedure (Steps 3-11) by typing USERART in the Named field.
- When the procedure has been completed, close the Find Files window and restart the computer.
- Launch PrintMaster®.
- Click the Yes button when responding to the prompt, "Projects have been found in the PrintMaster project folder. Would you like them to be added to the project gallery?"
NOTE: To prevent a reoccurrence of this error, it is advisable to update the video driver. Contact the computer or video card manufacturer for additional assistance with this update.
Windows® 3.1- Close the PrintMaster® program.
- Double-click the Program Manager and click the Main Group.
- Click the File menu and choose Search.
- Type USERPROJ.* in the Search For field.
- Confirm where PrintMaster® has been installed and type the drive letter in the Search From field. Typing the directory where PrintMaster® is located (C: PMW for the default location) will speed up the search. Verify that the Search All Subdirectories checkbox has a checkmark in it.
- Click the OK button. When the search is completed, confirm that USERPROJ files were found.
- With the mouse arrow positioned on the first file in the list, click once to highlight that file.
- With the file highlighted, hold down the SHIFT key and click once on the last file in that list. All USERPROJ files will be highlighted.
- Press the DELETE key and click the OK button to delete each file as prompted.
- Repeat the procedure above (Steps 3-8) by typing USERART.* in the Search For field.
- With all USERPROJ.* and USERART.* files deleted, close the File Manager window and start PrintMaster®.
- Click Yes when responding to the prompt, "Projects have been found. Would you like them to be added to the project gallery?"
NOTE: It is advisable to update the video driver to prevent a reoccurrence of this issue. Contact the computer or video card manufacture for assistance.
