Many websites and applications use ActiveX Controls and Plug-Ins to enhance access to their content. An ActiveX Control allows for the creation of interactive modules that increase the capabilities and functionalities of a web page. If accessing a website and the enhanced content does not display properly, the site may need to be added as a trusted site to allow the full functionality of the ActiveX Control or plug-in. Many online resources, including some produced by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, open new windows to display content. This allows new information to appear without replacing the existing information on the page. Because online advertisers also use popup windows to display advertisements, tools known as popup blockers are available that block them. These tools can block useful popup windows along with advertisements, which prevents some online resources from working correctly.
